Jusuf Nurkic is nicknamed the Bosnian Beast based on a famous story of his father, Hariz Nurkic, when he defeated many people in a fight. Being a policeman, his dad became a hero, with newspapers covering his heroic story. 

With his massive 7-foot height and huge body like a bear, sports enthusiasts got interested in his son Jusuf and ended up recruiting him. Inheriting his parents’ physique, Jusuf was nicknamed the Bosnian Beast after his performance of slamming through his opponents during the game. 

Born in Zivinice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he is a successful NBA star competing for the Portland Trail Blazers since 2017. However, he was drafted by Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 2014 draft, becoming the 16th overall pick.

The talented athlete had come to the attention after his father’s heroic deed that was featured in the newspaper. Bosnian sports agent Enes Trnovcevic read the article of his dad in the paper, which made Enes curious to know more about the police personnel. As mentioned by Opencourt Basketball, the information about Hariz resembled his braveness, strength, and physique. 

The news covered that police officer Nurkic had beaten 14 people in a fight. He was 400 pounds standing seven feet tall.

Thus, the agent did not think twice and rushed to the basketball player’s home and asked father Nurkic if he had a son. Jusuf was only 14 years old then and unfamiliar with sports. But Enes was determined that the mid-teen boy would be a superstar in the NBA. 

The pro athlete recalls the day and revealed he looked just a standard size, but Trnovcevic said the kid would be playing in the NBA, which made everyone laugh because everyone thought it was crazy. 

The Bosnian agent took the young boy to Slovenia for basketball training and provided him with a platform to play and grow in the field. Therefore, many think it is all about luck, whereas others said sometimes you just need a superhuman dad who can beat up 14 guys at once. 

However, when the question was asked about both Jusuf and his father, Hariz dodged it for some time. As a result, some fans thought it might just be a rumor, but most of them believed it after they saw the Bosnian police personnel in the crowd cheering for his son. 

But while the ESPN reporter asked the Bosnian native NBA player in an online interview, he admitted everything about his dad on the web and media was true.

During the same interview with ESPN, the center position holder of the basketball court revealed his younger brother would also join the game.
