Marivelle-Maria affectionately known as Olaya was Wim Hof’s first wife. The couple had four kids together. Sadly, Marivelle passed away in 1995 by suicide.  According to Wim, his wife Olaya, whom he met when he was just 22, was ‘the love of my life.

Olaya was depressed in the early days of their marriage, which he mistook for mild depression. She had been diagnosed with schizophrenia by the time their four children came. She committed suicide by leaping from the eighth storey of a building in 1995 when their children were aged seven to twelve.

On that awful night in 1995, Olaya was staying with her parents in Spain when she took her own life at the age of 35, just seconds after kissing her children farewell.

He met Olaya, whose full name was Marivelle-Maria, in a squat in Amsterdam in 1982, where he was enjoying a carefree, hippy-style existence.

After dating for a while, they married and started a family, with four children Enahm, Isa, Laura, and Michael born over the next six years.

Wim Hof, known as The Iceman, is a Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete known for his ability to withstand freezing temperatures.
