American actor and director John Burke Krasinski was born on October 20, 1979, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston’s Brighton district. He was brought up Catholic in Newton, Massachusetts, and is the youngest of three boys. Krasinski has Polish and Irish ancestry.

In a sixth-grade production of Annie, Krasinski played Daddy Warbucks, which marked the start of his acting career. Later, during their senior year in high school, he co-starred in a satirical play written by his future co-star on The Office, B. J. Novak.

In 1997, they both earned their high school diplomas from Newton South. Prior to attending college, Krasinski spent six months in Costa Rica teaching English to speakers of other languages and saved a woman from drowning in the sea.

Following his time in Costa Rica, Krasinski enrolled at Brown University to study playwriting and English. During his tenure at Brown, he was a member of the sketch comedy troupe Out of Bounds and a youth basketball coach at the Gordon School in East Providence, Rhode Island.

Krasinski graduated from Brown University in 2001 after writing an honors thesis titled “Contents Under Pressure.” He continued his schooling by enrolling in classes at the Actors Center in New York and the National Theater Institute in Waterford, Connecticut.

Krasinski is best known for playing Jim Halpert on the NBC sitcom The Office. Throughout the show’s nine-season run, he also worked as a producer and occasional director.
